Atom:   An atom is the ultimate particle of an element of an element which can take part in a chemical reaction.  Atom          Molecules are of  two  types 1. Elementary                       2. Compound  1. Elementary molecules are  composed of atoms of same elements,  e.g., hydrogen(H 2 )  chlorine(Cl 2 )...  etcetera  Oxygen (O 2 ) 2. Compound molecules are composed of atoms of more than one type of element   e.g., HCL, CO 2 ,  NH 3  ... etcetera  NH 3  molecules  Note:  The Atoms of noble gases and  metals can exist in free state.

(2). Atom of the same elements may not be Identical in mass.  After the discovery of Isotopes  has been proved that Atoms of same elements may have Atoms of different  masses. e.g    (3). Atom of different elements usually combine together in a fixed simple whole number  to form molecules,  But several of compounds are known in which atoms do not combine together in a fixed simple whole number ratio, called non-stoichiometric compound.  e.g FeO 0.93 (4).Atoms are no longer considered indestructible.

The law of reciprocal or equivalent proportions:   It's stated as    " The ratio in which two elements combine separately with a fixed mass of the third element is either the same or is a simple whole number multiple of the ratio in which these elements combine with each other." let's understand this law simply, that the ratio of masses of B and C which combine separately with a fixed mass of third element A, is either the same as or some simple multiple  of the ratio of masses of B and C combine with each other.

Law of conservation of mass :   It states  that,    " Matter can neither be created nor destroyed as a result of any chemical or physical  change "            but this law  is not absolutely true,  there is limitations of the law of conservation  of mass.
