Mole Concepts & Avogadro's Number:
Some Basic concepts of Chemistry #13
Avogadro's Number : The number of particles in one mole of a substance is known as Avogadro's number.it is equal to 6.023 × 10²³
Mole concept.
Mole : the amount of any substance which contains 6.023 × 10²³ number of atoms or molecules or ions etc. is called one mole.
• thus a mole is a unit of counting particles such as molecules, atoms, ions, electrons, protos, etc,
thus we can say that ---
one mole of Carbon atom = 6.023 × 10²³ Carbon atoms,
one mole of oxygen molecules = " oxygen molecules
one mole of ions = " ions
one mole of electron = " electrons
Importance of mole concepts :
- Chemical calculation can be made in a simple and convenient wayby observing the fact that there is a relationship between the number of moles of the reactant and products. so instead of calculating the molecular mass of the reactants and products, the mole ratio method is more simple and convenient.
2CO + O2 = 2 CO2
2 × 26g 32g 2 × 44g
2. The actual mass of a molecule, an atom, an ion or even the charge of an electron can be evaluated from the knowledge of the mole concept.
3. In the calculation of the number of atoms, or molecules in a given amount of the element or compound mole concept is very Important.
